Marise Beckson and her partner Patrick Fox have been long-time residents at Highfields – and now they are the first people to reserve a brand-new home at Highfields Green.
Their journey with Cannon Kirk started in 2020. It’s been a privilege for us to help them along their homeowning journey, a heartwarming experience that we at Cannon Kirk would love to share with you – in Marise and Patrick’s own words.
“Patrick and I met on a dating app during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Marise began. “We got to know each other online before we could meet in person. Our first real-life date was on 17 June 2020 – a date we now celebrate as our anniversary.”
She recalled that first meeting fondly: “It was at Patrick’s grandmother’s house, during one of the short periods when lockdown restrictions were eased.”
At the time, Patrick was based in Cambridge, while Marise – a nurse – was living in Littleport but also working in the city. “We spent as much time together as we could around my shifts,” she said. “Going out to eat, shopping, or just wandering around the city. It was a lovely time.”
“Less than a year after we met, we decided to buy our first home,” Marise said. “We did consider renting or shared ownership, but once we looked into the Help to Buy scheme and spoke to a few people, we realised that owning our own home was within reach.”
She smiled as she added, “I remember driving around Highfields years ago and dreaming of living here – and that dream came true.”
Marise spoke warmly about the support they received. “When Denise, the sales advisor, showed us the home that would become ours, we fell in love with it instantly. We didn’t hesitate to reserve it,” she said. “Denise was fantastic – so kind and professional. She guided us through every step, explained everything clearly, and made us feel completely supported.”
“We even picked up our keys on our anniversary,” she added. “It felt like fate – the perfect way to mark the occasion.”
“We really love our house,” Marise said. “It’s spacious, full of natural light, and has a big garden and lovely views. The build quality is excellent, and the aftercare has been great – though we haven’t needed much of it!”
She went on to describe the development itself. “Highfields Green is beautiful – the layout is well thought out, there’s lots of greenery, and it feels really open and welcoming,” she noted. “There’s a great sense of community here too. Our neighbours are friendly, and we even have a little WhatsApp group to stay in touch.”
The location has also been a big plus. “We walk to the train station regularly – it only takes about 20 minutes – and the service is great,” she said. “Patrick even gets his hair cut in the village now! Ely is close too, so there’s always somewhere nice to go if we want a change of scene.”
Despite being happy in their current home, Marise said the couple started thinking about the future. “We realised we wanted a bit more space – ideally something with a garage, a utility room, and a home office.”
She continued, “As soon as we saw construction had started again at Highfields Green, we went straight to the sales office. It was so lovely to be greeted by Denise again – seeing a familiar face gave us so much confidence.”
“We never thought we’d find a better plot than the one we have,” she admitted, “but this new house has so much more – a beautiful entrance hall, a kitchen that’s perfect for entertaining, and a fantastic garden. We’ve already invited Patrick’s family, who live abroad, to spend Christmas with us there.”
Marise described their new Russet-style home as “a gorgeous family house with everything we need for the future.”
“The specification is really impressive,” she said. “We’ve got solar panels, an EV charging point, and the insulation is amazing – we’re expecting to save money from day one.”
“We didn’t decorate much in our first house,” she added, “but this time we’re going all out! Feature walls, bold colour schemes, beautiful tiles – we’re having so much fun planning it all.”
She also praised Cannon Kirk’s approach. “Thanks to their generous flooring incentives and what’s included as standard, we’ve been able to upgrade some of our choices and even buy new furniture.”
Marise concluded: “We’re so excited to be the first residents in our new home. It’s such a special feeling to move into a brand-new house – and we feel very lucky. We trust Cannon Kirk completely, and honestly, we can’t praise Denise and the team highly enough.”
We’re incredibly grateful to Marise and Patrick for sharing their story – and for choosing Cannon Kirk not once, but twice, as their homebuilder. It’s been a privilege to be part of their journey, and we can’t wait to welcome them into their beautiful new Russet home.
