The best of the beautiful fens surround ancient March in Cambridgeshire. This thriving market town on the banks of the River Nene has lost none of its traditional charm and character, successfully incorporating essential developments to roads and amenities and embracing national retail chains, whilst preserving its unique heritage as one of the most important settlements in the historic Isle of Ely.
Excellent road links put March half an hour’s drive from Peterborough, Huntingdon and the A1/M. The delights of Cambridge are an hour away by car and the train will take you from March to London in a little under an hour and a half.
March has four primary schools and one secondary school. The Neale-Wade academy is the largest secondary school and Sixth form in the fens. It was granted Mathematics and Computing special status in 2005 and Academy status in 2013.
Wisbech Grammer School is a 20 minute drive north of March.
March has one opticians practice and two medical centres: The Riverside Practice, in the town itself, and The Surgery at Manea. There is also a medical centre at Doddington.
March is encircled by significant fenland towns, all about half an hour’s drive away. To the north is the sea port and market town of Kings Lynn, to the south east the ancient cathedral city of Ely, to the south west is Huntingdon (birthplace of Oliver Cromwell) and to the east another cathedral city: Peterborough.
